Dubai-based fuel retailer Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) has announced a 24-hour ban on the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products on May 31, across its all Enoc and Eppco service stations network in the UAE.

The move is in support of the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD), an international initiative launched by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and its partners.

The World No Tobacco Day is observed on May 31 every year, and aims to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption around the globe.

The day is intended to draw attention on the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and the negative health effects on non-smokers.

The WHO encourages concerned authorities all over the world to reduce tobacco product sale in general, especially on World No Tobacco Day.
