Wife tortured to death… kids seriously hurt

A UAE man and his wife are on trial in Abu Dhabi on charges of torturing his second wife to death by repeatedly beating her with solid objects for a long period of time.

The two are also accused of systematically torturing the victim’s two children, causing a 40 per cent permanent disability to the little girl.

Police told court they had found the defendant’s second wife dead because of torture and beating during a raid on the man’s flat in Abu Dhabi city following a tip off.

The prosecutor charged the unnamed man of using sticks and other sold objects to beat his second wife regularly over a long period of time. He also charged him of locking her up and depriving her of food many days.

The woman was charged of torturing the second wife’s little daughter and son, causing serious injuries to them.

“The prosecutor told court that the victim died because of excessive beating and torture, and of malnutrition due to lack of food,” the Arabic language daily Al Bayan said, adding that the judge adjourned hearings to July 15.
