The Holy month of Ramadan is expected to extend to 30 days and Eid Al Fitr could fall on Friday, August 9, according to an astronomer’s predictions.

According to the official announcement, the UAE's private sector will get a 2-day holiday on the first and second of Shawwal.

Going by the predictions of the astronomer, Eid Al Fitr will fall on Friday, August 9, which would mean that the private sector will lose out the two-day Eid holidays because of the weekend.

The Sharjah Planetarium at the Department of Culture and Information had correctly predicted earlier that the Ramadan would begin on July 10.

It also announced that the Shawwal crescent will appear on August 7 at 12.51am and set with the sunset, making it difficult to be seen, and hence completes the last day of Ramadan (30 days). So, Friday, August 9, will be astronomically the first day of Shawwal and the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Astronomy Researcher and Supervisor of Sharjah Planetarium, said that the first half of the holy month of Ramadan will witness a rise in temperature, which will reach 46-degree Celsius, accompanied by dry dusty winds.
