Woman, infant die during illegal delivery; Dubai Police arrest two

Dubai Police have arrested two women accused of causing the death of a pregnant woman by trying to deliver her at home without having any medical experience.

The victim’s six-year-old son went to the police and told them his mother died before his eyes at their home in Bur Dubai while she was being delivered by the two women.

The boy, who has a 1.5-year-old brother, guided the police to those two women, including an Asian and one from another Gulf country.

The two told police they only tried to help that woman, also a Gulf citizen, after she refused to go to hospital on the grounds she conceived through a relationship.

Police contacted the victim’s ex-husband who said he is the not the father of those two children, but offered to help them in having the necessary papers issued for them.

Police, quoted by 'Al Bayan' daily, said biological tests confirmed the man was telling the truth, adding that they were trying to identify the real father.

“The woman died and her secret died with her. We are still investigating the case to locate the real father,” said Colonel Abdullah Al Masam, head of Bur Dubai police station.
