A Pakistani woman who admitted to have smuggled 80 capsules containing 700g of heroin before Dubai Criminal Court was awarded a 10 year-jail term and Dh50,000 fine followed by deportation.

AKM, 26, a visitor, told the court presided by Judge Hamad Abdullatif that she was supposed to hand over the capsules to a Pakistani passenger, Habib, who was travelling with her on the same flight, on their arrival in Dubai.

She admitted that she carried the drugs for 50,000 rupees of which 5,000 rupees were paid to her in Pakistan and the rest was supposed to be paid upon completion of the transaction.

On October 7, 2009, Adel Ali, a policeman at the airport, suspected passenger MAH, 29, a Pakistani visitor. But on searching him police did not find any banned items.

Separately, AKM was also suspected and searched by a policewoman and foreign bodies were seen in her digestive system. Taken to the hospital, the accused released 80 capsules.

She told investigators that MAH, who was with her on the same flight, had asked her to smuggle the heroin capsules against 50,000 rupees.

MAH denied such an agreement and knowing the woman, so the prosecution did not file any charges against him as the only evidence was the woman’s claims.
