In an incredible turn of events, an Afghan worker found his arm cut off while working in a factory in Al Quoz and then had it reattached by the doctors at Rashid Hospital.

A team of doctors at Rashid Hospital succeeded in putting the limb back into place after a marathon five-hour operation, giving hope to the victim that he will be able to work normally again to feed eight hungry mouths at home, reported Al Bayan.

Zia al-Din Muhammad Ayub, 28, has to take care of big family comprising his five children and a wife. Following his father’s death the responsibility of his two younger brothers have also landed on his shoulders.

The good news from the distraught worker is that he will be able to work again in the next five months as he slow goes through sessions of physiotherapy and other procedures which would help his attached limb work normally.

His tryst with destiny began when as usual he was working on an industrial machine in Al Quoz and suddenly the machine pulled his hand inside.

Though he was able to switch the machine off immediately but it was not before his hand was cut off.

His colleagues quickly called ambulance and the paramedics stored the broken limb in the ice while transferring the victim to the hospital.

Brought to the hospital in a state of semi-coma due excessive loss of blood, Ayub was immediately taken to the operation room and a team of surgeons from various departments under the leadership of Dr Mohammed Siddiq began the five hour surgery.

Revealing the importance of time in such cases he said if the amputated parts are reattached within six hours of its cutting off then the chances of the operation’s success are very high.

He said he is sure of the success of the operation once the blood flows in the arteries and veins, because this is a sign of feeling.

He reported that the patient needs three to four weeks of physical therapy, and then he could leave the hospital.

However, the patient will need regular sessions of physiotherapy for the next few months.

The doctor appealed people to help the patient to foot his medical bills and other costs like feeding his family during the period he cannot work.

A similar surgery was successfully carried out at the Rashid Hospital earlier this year.
