Abu Dhabi Police is offering a black-point reduction programme, giving drivers the chance to avoid cancellation of their licences.

The vehicles and drivers licensing department at the Abu Dhabi Police general headquarters has designated a counter for the Traffic Black Points Reduction Programme

Lieutenant Colonel Saif Obaid Al Khaili, Head of the Police Follow-up Department, said the step reflects the keenness of the police departments to jointly promote public awareness of the programme.

The employees manning the counter are ready to answer any questions customers may have and will register those who are willing to participate in the programme.

The programme aims to give drivers the chance to avoid having their licences revoked and to improve their behaviour on the road.

The Police Follow-up Department, represented by the Traffic Black Points Programme Section, works to educate drivers and to provide services that reduce the number of traffic black points being assigned and the violations that may lead to the revocation of licenses.

Under the terms of the Minister of Interior’s initiative, announced in October, violators will be given a once-a-year opportunity to reduce their points before reaching the 24 point limit, and see up to eight points knocked off their record.

Temporary licence-holders, who have had their licences revoked for the first time and reached the 24-point limit, will also be allowed to benefit from the programme.

The programme is open to drivers with permanent licenses who have committed their third traffic violation; and drivers of heavy vehicles who have been involved in accidents where the driver’s vehicle or the other motorist’s vehicle have overturned, who have run red signals, or who have passed other vehicles in areas where overtaking is restricted.

Drivers wishing to join the programme can find more information or complete the registration process by visiting the headquarters of any of the Traffic and Patrols Directorates and Departments in the UAE, by visiting the following website: www.adpolice.gov.ae/csd, or by calling 600566006.
