Your small firm in UAE’s great work places?

Why should the list of great places to work for be limited to huge multinationals or heavyweight local companies? Small and medium sized companies can be equally, if not more, employee-friendly and capable of making it to the most lucrative place to work for.

In its latest initiative, Great Place to Work Institute is trying to identify small and medium-sized companies, which can be tagged as the best work places to be in.

The training and consultancy firm, which recognises best workplaces in over 45 countries across the world, is now on the search, but this time only for the so-called smaller players in the country.

Much on the lines of its top companies’ programmes, SMEs will also be evaluated on the levels of credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie within their organisations.

“The annual SME ranking will list the country’s best employers based on the confidential feedback of their staff and an independent culture audit of their HR practices by the Institute. Combining more than 25 years of proprietary research, the benchmarking study assesses the level of trust between three key relationships within the workplace – employees and their managers, employees and their jobs, and between employees and other employees,” the institute said in a statement.

Registrations for the 2013 Top SMEs list are on and the deadline is June 30 this year. Winners will be announced in the fourth quarter, making some names very proud.

On the eligibility front, any UAE-based company that is two years or older with 20 to 99 employees can participate in the programme at a cost. Employers will have to pay a fee attached to the programme.
