Your street name in Abu Dhabi will change

Published

The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) in Abu Dhabi has begun a project named Abu Dhabi Streets Addressing, Geo-Names and Signage System (ADAGS), in coordination with the three municipalities of the emirate and various stakeholders.

The new Arabic-English system will feature the building number and street name so as not to be repeated within the city, as well as the city name, the emirate and postcode that will be determined in coordination with Empost.

The system will create 12,000 new street names and simplify 200,000 addresses, providing names for 4,000 neighbourhoods and installing 20,000 information signs in the entire emirate, the DMA said.

It will begin with Al Nahyan Camp, Al Falah Residential Complex and Al Maryah Island (formerly Sowwah Island).

Also, the new system is going to be linked to modern technological applications.

The department pointed out that it has already started addressing names and direction signs in neighbourhoods and tourist areas in Abu Dhabi in coordination with the supreme committee for geographical names.

This was preceded by establishing a database which aims at organising, standardising and codifying the geographical names for locations, landscapes and the streets of Abu Dhabi in order to be official reference for the names of streets.
