The Zayed Giving Convoy has completed the installation of 40 medical aid camps in various Sudanese villages, which were supervised by a UAE-Sudanese voluntary medical team, as part of its campaign to treat a million children and elderly members of society, under the theme, 'Giving is Happiness'.

The convoy's efforts comply with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to make 2017 the #Year of Giving. The convoy is a joint campaign between the Zayed Giving Initiative, the Dar Al Ber Society, Sharjah Charity House, the Saudi-German Hospitals Group, and the UAE Societal and Specialised Volunteering Programme.

The humanitarian missions of the UAE volunteer team in Sudanese villages are considered a continuation of the work by the Zayed Giving Initiative in many countries around the world, which has managed, since its establishment in 2000, to help millions of people through the campaign.

The campaign aims to establish the culture of giving and volunteering in various segments of society, regardless of colour, sex or race, as an exceptional and innovative model to be followed by local and international governments and private institutions.

The UAE cardiac surgeon, Dr. Adel Al Shameri, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative, said that over 500,000 children and elders in Sudan have benefited from the diagnostic treatments and preventative programmes provided by the medical aid camps.

He added that these camps are equipped with mobile clinics and a mobile hospital with a capacity of 15 beds and separate sections for primary healthcare, emergency care and surgery, as well as disinfection equipment for medical tools, specialist care units and a pharmacy. They are also equipped with a laboratory, x-ray equipment, a maintenance unit, generators, and up to date medical supplies.

This humanitarian mission aims to strengthen the work between UAE and Sudanese health and humanitarian organisations, as part of an annual voluntary programme to help a million children and elderly people in Sudanese governorates and villages, Dr. Al Shameri continued.

This reflects the depth of relations between both countries and improves the level of joint voluntary work between the UAE and Sudanese medical personnel, empowering them to participate in treating vulnerable patients and providing medical programmes, as an exceptional model of humanitarian giving that is in harmony with the foundations laid by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and is continued by the journey of giving that was started by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, he concluded.
