A little Emirati boy was killed when a massive door fell on him at his house in Fujairah, prompting police to arrest two Asian carpenters blamed for the door collapse.

Police said the child was rushed to hospital but was already dead while another boy was seriously injured in the door collapse.

A court in the eastern emirate had earlier sentenced the two carpenters to six months in prison and ordered them to pay diya (blood money) to the victim’s relatives after they were found guilty of causing the boy’s death.

An appeals court on Tuesday reduced the sentenced to one month in jail and abolished the diya decision.

Mom reports drug-addict son

An Emirati mother waited for her son to get out of the house and phoned the police to tell them her son possessed drugs at home.

Police searching the house at the woman’s request found Tramadol pills and hashish and decided to wait for the 18-year-old to come back home.

“Soon after they found the stuff, the son returned home to find the police waiting for him.

“They arrested him on charges of possessing drugs for personal use and dealing,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said.
