A teenaged Emirati was seriously injured after he was stabbed by a man who alleged he was harassing his sister. The incident took place near Grand cinemas in Dubai.

Police said they had arrested the attacker, a newspaper said on Sunday.

The 17-year-old Emirati, identified as AA, was talking to two girls inside their vehicle the cinema’s car park, near Grand Hyatt Hotel, when he was attacked and stabbed. The attacker fled the scene but was caught later.

“The boy was stabbed and left lying in a pool of blood before the eyes of the astonished crowd at the cinema,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum said, quoting Brigadier Khalil al Mansouri, director of the general department of criminal investigation in Dubai.

“We investigated the two girls and found that one of them is the sister of the attacker…we later released them as they were not part of the attack.”

The victim’s mother said her son was kept in the operation room at Rashid Hospital for nearly four hours after he was stabbed four times.

She said doctors had told they could remove one of his damaged kidneys, adding that her son was also stabbed in the foot and the thigh.

“No matter what my son had done, this attacker cannot take the law in his hand…there is a law that is above all,” she said.
