Employer fined Dh400,000 for illegal hiring

An employer was fined Dh400,000 for hiring expatriate workers who are not sponsored by his company in violation of local labour laws, newspapers reported on Thursday.

The Federal Supreme Court (FSC) rejected the employer’s pleas and ordered him to pay Dh400,000 in line with federal labour regulations.
A court of first instance had earlier fined the unnamed employer Dh50,000, prompting him to appeal the sentence, which was upheld by another court. He then decided to resort to FSC, which fined Dh50,000 per each illegal worker.
