Employer fined over worker visa transfer

The Federal Supreme Court ordered an Emirati businessman to pay Dh50,000 for allowing his employee to work for a new employer who rented the firm from that businessman, press reports said on Monday.

A court earlier had found the Emirati employer guilty of breaking labour rules but an appeals court later annulled the fine and acquitted him.

The acquittal prompted the prosecution to appeal with  the Federal Supreme Court which upheld the earlier verdict and fined the Emirati Dh50,000.

“The Employer violated the law by letting a worker on his sponsorship work for another employer in disregard of existing rules and without informing the police about the move….renting out his business to a new employer does not relieve him of this punitive responsibility,” the court said.
