End-Nov deadline for ID registration for govt staff

UAE civil servants who do not have a national identity card must apply before the end of November to avert paying Dh20 fine per each delay day, the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) has said.

In a statement carried by local newspapers on Sunday, EIDA said all government employees must meet the new deadline or they would pay Dh20 fine per each delay day or a maximum Dh1,000 in line with a cabinet decision.

It noted that applying for ID at an authorised typing centre before that date means that the deadline is met provided the applicants pursue the other procedures, including finger prints, on the assigned date.

“All employees at government and semi-government establishments are urged not to wait until the last minute to avert fines as this will result in confusion and congestion at ID centres.those who complete their applications should also receive their cards within 30 days after the first notification to avoid having their cards being destroyed by EIDA,” the statement said.

EIDA said e-applications for the card would be available on its website soon as part of ongoing plans to expedite services and ensure the UAE’s entire population is registered with this landmark ID project.

Children who do not have passports and are registered on their parents’ passports need to have their own passport to apply for the Emirates national identity card.

“Children who are registered on their parents’ passport will not be issued a card unless they have a separate passport,” it said.
