Farmer kills wolf after four-year battle

A Saudi farmer finally trapped and killed a wolf after a chase of nearly four years during which the animal killed 17 of his livestock and threatened cattle of other farmers in the area, a newspaper reported on Monday.

The man then hanged the predator by a pole on a key road in the western rugged town of Mahd Al Dahab (cradle of gold) to deter other wolves and underscore his victory for the farmers and the cattle.

The unnamed farmer said he finally succeeded in hunting the wolf after stalking along with other farmers in the wilderness during Eid Al Fitr last week.

“We finally got it after a continuous chase of nearly four years...it had killed 17 of my livestock and cattle of other farmers…it was really a weird animal as it used to eat a little part of its prey before leaving it for the vultures,” the farmer said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Sabq.

“It seems it was a clever wolf as if it used to come and attack my sheep every time I travel out of the area as if it knew when I would leave…but it is dead now and hanged on the road as a symbol of victory for the farmers and our cattle…it has become an object of entertainment for passengers who would stop their cars on the road to take photographs of it.”
