An Abu Dhabi court has asked banks operating in the UAE to freeze all assets owned by an Abu Dhabi-based dredging company to pay damages to a worker who suffered from a severe injury that led to disability as a result of the company’s negligence, a newspaper said on Thursday.

The court asked the central bank to supervise the process and send the funds to the authorities so they will pay Dh843,000 in compensation to Mousa Yousuf Abdul Qadir, who has become unable to indulge in any work in the future.

The company had appealed the verdict and asked for a delay in implementation the court order but its request had been rejected, Emarat Al Youm said.

The court also asked law enforcers to raid the company headquarters and seize all its equipment and other assets so they will be sold.

“The court authorized the law enforcers to raid the company and, if necessary, break into its site in implementation of the order,” the paper said.

In his case, Abdul Qadir had filed for Dhfive million damages but the court finally decided on that sum, including Dh400,000 for disability.

The paper said Abdul Qadir was knocked over by a crane operated by an unauthorized driver who did not have a licence at the time. He said the company allowed that driver to operate the crane and that his recklessness resulted in the accident that led to Abdul Qadir’s injury.

Emirat Alyoum did not mention Abdul Qadir’s nationality or name the company involved.
