Centres of the National and Reserve Service Authority on Saturday received the first batch of Emirati conscripts who will start their training today at the designated locations, after all relevant preparations, in implementation of Law No.4/ 2014 issued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

On this occasion, Staff Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of National and Reserve Service Authority, greeted the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, and General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

"August 31, 2014 is a historic day as it will be the first time in the modern history of UAE that young Emirati males and females undertake national service. Thousands who are eager to undertake national service walk in their steps in the future."

"The goal of national service is not increasing the number of personnel, rather its noble goal is to raise future generations on sound national foundations and to help them understand the challenges they may face and the ways to counter them based on a sense of full responsibility and keenness," added Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan.

Also on Saturday, the Khawla Bint Al Azwar Military School, the Gulf region's first military college for women, received the first batch of female conscripts for the nine-month military training under the national and reserve service law.

Training is optional for women aged between 18 and 30, provided they receive parental consent. Wam
