Around 4,000 labourers have benefited from the Cross Safely awareness campaign which was launched April 1 by the Ministry of Labour in cooperation with Dubai Police.

The campaign aims to educate thousands of road users, especially labourers, about traffic laws and the dangers of misusing these laws, which could result in serious run-over accidents.

Many blue-collar workers have been educated, in different labour camps in Jebel Ali Free Zone over two days, primarily in housing facilities related to Unique Contracting Company, Arabtec and Dutco Balfour.

Mobile Care Units have been used during the educational campaign, for their ability to reach remote areas, and are fairly equipped with unique features.

Labourers enjoyed watching a short-film, which was presented by Omar Muslim, Police Officer from Dubai Police, during their visit to the above mentioned labour camps, using the Units 52 inches TV screen, to raise traffic awareness and show the correct steps of crossing any road to reduce traffic accidents.

Labourers have also enjoyed a practical experiment, which was conveyed  to discern their awareness level of how would they react during road crossing situations.

From their side, Ismail Balhoush and Ahmed Ghareeb, From Mol’s Directive Dept. have both informed workers' with their rights and duties stipulated in the law regulating labour relations, in addition to briefing them about health and safety tips which they need to abide to on duty.

The workshop has witnessed a surprising level of interaction, where labourers rushed to obtain their copy of the distributed posters and leaflets, which was printed in several languages related to road safety tips, in addition to leaflets related to labour laws.

Authorities will arrange nine workshops in different labour camp areas, including three workshops in Jebel Ali, three in Al Quoz and three Muhaisnah.
