National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has urged motorists to be more cautious, reduce the speed and leave enough distance between vehicles due to the fog that causes poor visibility on Sunday.

Strong winds in UAE

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has urged drivers to exercise caution, reduce the speed and leave enough distance between vehicles because of the possibility of northwesterly winds raising dust in parts of the country.

In a statement on Saturday, the NCMS advised residents and visitors to not frequent the sea as a result of strong winds and rough seas.

“NCMS confirms the continuity of the warning about the fresh northwesterly winds and rough sea in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea,” it said.

Rain in UAE to continue; humidity to give way to fog

The wet weather will continue to dampen weekend plans, with the UAE’s Met office forecasting scattered showers on Friday and Saturday.

Moderate to fresh winds could also cause raised dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility across open areas, according to the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) for the UAE.

The NCMS stated on Friday, the weather will be partly cloudy with increasing clouds amounts increasing the chance of rainfall over scattered places of the country.

It further added: “Moderate to fresh winds will cause blowing dust and sand at times. The sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.”

The weather on Saturday will continue in stet, with an increase in the amount of clouds over different areas, with a chance of scattered showers in the northern and eastern parts of the UAE.

The NCMS has also confirmed the relative humidity will increase during night and early morning over some internal areas with a chance of mist formation on late Saturday and early morning on Sunday.

The weather bureau in the past has stated it keeps planes on standby for opportunities for cloud-seeding.

Earlier this week, the UAE has encountered wet weather with varied intensities of rain across the country, along with a drop in temperatures.

However, the wet weather is not limited to the UAE alone, with a Gulf-wide low-pressure weather system also affecting Oman, Qatar and the east of Saudi Arabia.

Oman’s Met office has said rain should continue in the Sultanate until Saturday, with the chance of occasional thunderstorms and hail.

Similarly, Qatar’s Weather bureau has reported on ‘thundery rain’, with horizontal visibility dropping to less than three kilometres in parts.

It further said: “Skies are gradually expected to become stable in the next two days, with some chances of isolated rain in areas.

“Sea warnings are expected to continue until Saturday.”

Qatar has advised its residents of another unstable weather system to affect the country from Monday.
