E City is off to a similar start with its morning deal offering the Dell Inspiron 15 i7 with a voucher, plus a home theatre and a HDD or a mobile plus tablet.

Meanwhile, the BlackBerry and Nokia smartphones have become even more cheaper, with Emax now offering the Q10, which started at Dh1,049 at the start of the Shopper, at nearly a 50 per cent discount, being priced at Dh599. The Z3 is now at Dh324, while the Z30 is at Dh999.

Shopper Perizad Dastoor said: “My family and I waited for Saturday to head over to Gitex to shop. Everyone knows that’s when you get the best deals. I am here for my laptop and possibly a new TV for the house. Let’s see what we can find in here.”

Aditi Kantaria, also at the Shopper to snap up home appliances said: “I have a good idea of what I want. But the deals around here are just so enticing that I may end up spending much more than I bargained for.”

Khalid Mansoori, a tourist from Saudi Arabia, said: “I am here with my family for the Eid holidays when I heard of Gitex. Why let an opportunity pass when there is so much on offer here?”

Those arriving at the Shopper at the Dubai World Trade Centre can anticipate large crowds to come in post 4pm, which is also the time when several retailers launch their Dh1 auctions and last minute promotions.
