99% of UAE firms comply with mid-day break rule

Ninety-nine per cent of UAE establishments complied with the Ministry of Labour’s mid-day break rule for outdoor workers, according to Maher Al Oabed, Executive Director, Inspection Affairs Department at the ministry.

Al Oabed said the period set by the Ministry for the rule was from June 15 until end-August. Al Oabed told 'Al Bayan' newspaper that “the inspection department paid field visits to 68,472 facilities and found only 476 violated the decision".

He said the statistics reflect the culture of awareness and that similar inspections which began in 2005 contributed to raising awareness among employers, who also welcomed the increase of the period of the ban to three months instead of two.

Al Oabed said that extending the period to three months proved that the right decisions as temperatures are still high.
