Cabinet clears Central Bank capital increase

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Sunday chaired the Cabinet's meeting held in Abu Dhabi at the Presidential Palace.

During the meeting the cabinet reviewed a number of items on its agenda, taking appropriate decisions that serve the nation and the development of its institutions by providing the best possible government services to citizens and residents alike. The council of ministers also acted to strengthen trade and boost economic and cultural ties with friendly countries.

The ministers were briefed on a report detailing decisions issued by the cabinet and the Ministerial Council for Services during 2010 regarding legislation passed in the fields of foreign policy, economics, education, health, justice, security, society, infrastructure, finance and government services.

After approving the appointment of the Minister of Labour, Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, as the chairman of the board of directors for the National Authority for Qualifications, the cabinet gave the go-ahead to the Ministry of Economy to draft a federal law on the protection of trade secrets. The cabinet also endorsed a federal law on the trafficking of precious stones and metals, in addition to removing obstacles hindering the increase of capital at the UAE Central Bank.

Moving on, the ministers approved plans to restructure the board of Zayed University, before electing to ratify a draft agreement between the countries making up the Cooperation Council for Gulf Arab States and the Government of Malaysia concerning economic cooperation, trade and investments.

Concluding the meeting the cabinet approved the signing of air transport agreements with the governments of Argentina and India, in addition to a customs cooperation draft agreement signed between the UAE and Syria.

Also present was Lt General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

 

Mohammed briefed on campaign to promote national cohesion

Sheikh Mohammed was also briefed on a media campaign launched by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Community Development to propagate a sense of national community and cohesion amongst the various segments of UAE society.

During a presentation at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed watched a multimedia production on the campaign, which follows the directives of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed his admiration for initiative and praised the noble efforts which serve to advance the national interests.

Also there for the presentation were National Security Advisor Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi , Minister of Youth, Culture and Community Development Abdul Rahman Mohammed Nassir Al Owais and other senior officials.
