In an instant reaction to an appeal by a Yemeni family, Dubai’s crown prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has ordered the dispatch of a three-year-old girl suffering from Leukemia abroad for treatment.

Sheikh Hamdan said he would pay all medical expenses for the child, estimated at nearly Dh1.4 million, according to the Arabic language daily Emarat Alyoum.

“This is not strange because Sheikh Hamdan has always been a pioneer in helping the needy on this good land,” the paper quoted the girl’s mother as saying.

The paper said Sheikh Hamdan was reacting to an appeal it published for the child’s family which cannot afford paying for her treatment.

It quoted doctors in Khalifa Hospital in Abu Dhabi as saying treatment of this advanced stage of Leukemia is available abroad, including the US and Germany but that it is a costly operation, exceeding Dh1.4 million.
