The talks took place at 10 Downing Street where Cameron received General Mohamed.

Gen. Mohamed expressed heartfelt sympathy to the British government and families on the death of British civilians in a recent terrorist attack in Sousse, Tunisia.

He also wished a speedy recovery for those injured in the attack which he condemned as one of the terrorist acts that are in violation of all religions, laws and human and ethical principles.

The British prime minister expressed appreciation of the UAE's good positions. He also thanked Gen. Mohamed for sympathising with the families of the victims and people of Britain.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed friendship and cooperation relations between the UAE and the United Kingdom and ways to bolster and promote them to serve the interests of the two friendly countries and their peoples.

They looked into the progress of excellent relations between their two countries as well as their cooperation in the political, economic, investment and cultural domains in the light of the interest that the leaders of the two countries take in enhancing and promoting these historical relations.

The two sides also touched on coordination and consultation on a number of regional issues, most importantly combating terrorist organisations and the threats they pose to the security and peace of states, and the importance of more efforts and cooperation for eradicating terrorism, extremism and deterring terrorist organisations targeting stability and seeding religious, sectarian and racial divisions among the components of safe societies.

Mohamed bin Zayed attends lecture

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces attended last evening a lecture held at his Ramadan Majlis which was delivered by Dr. Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs.

Present were Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care & Special Needs (ZHO),  Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Executive Council Member, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saif Al Nahyan and Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Transport Department and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority.

In the lecture entitle "Abu Dhabi: Past and Present", Dr. Nusseibeh said that there a wrong notion that the British were behind the federation idea.

"It is a fact that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan was the driving force behind that historic move, despite skeptic views by the British officials about its success. The late Sheikh Zayed was the only leader in the region who never questioned success of the federation," he said.

he went on to say that the other wrong notion was that the dual agreement and Dubai declaration in 1968 paved the way and sped up the announcement of federation.

"The agreement was just a beginning of a long and rigorous road which required huge efforts by Sheikh Zayed to reason other founding fathers and neighbouring countries before and after federation. Nevertheless, most observers and diplomats expected that such an ambitious dream will not be realized.

Dr. Nusseibeh recalled that in 1961, Sheikh Zayed ordered construction of a concrete road linking Abu Dhabi with Al Maqta. At that time, people believed it was a far-fetched dream, buried under the grueling sands but one day, this road became the main artery in the modern city, planned and designed by Sheikh Zayed.

He also detailed the efforts made by Sheikh Zayed to build the modern Abu Dhabi despite scarce resources and how his prudent diplomacy earned him the admiration of world leaders.
