Gen. Mohamed receives Uganda President

General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday received Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, who is on an official visit to the country.

Upon the arrival of the Ugandan President at Al Mushrif Palace, an official reception ceremony was held at the Palace Square where the Ugandan President and General Sheikh Mohamed stood atop the honour platform as the band played the national anthems of the Republic of Uganda and the UAE. Following the playing of the anthems, a 21-gun salute was given using cannons.

Sheikh Mohamed accompanied the Ugandan President to the main hall of the palace, where President Yoweri Museveni shook hands with sheikhs, ministers and senior officials from civilian agencies and the military, and Sheikh Mohamed shook hands with senior officials accompanying the Ugandan President.

At the beginning of the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the Ugandan President and his accompanying delegation, expressing his happiness about the visit and his wishes that the visit would contribute to expanding the friendship and cooperative relations between the UAE and the Republic of Uganda.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to support and develop bilateral relations in economics, investments and trade fields, as well as the importance of opening wider horizons of cooperation in development and social aspects for achieving the aspirations of both countries and their peoples.

Also during the meeting, the two sides reviewed opportunities to benefit from potentials in both countries to promote bilateral cooperation and offer access to its development.

Sheikh Mohamed stressed that the UAE, led by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is looking forward to strengthening its relations of friendship and cooperation with the Republic of Uganda by building a strong and diverse economic and business partnership that serves the interests of the two countries, noting the UAE's keen interest to expand relations with all friendly countries in an atmosphere of trust, respect and mutual understanding.

For his part, the Ugandan President expressed his happiness on visiting the UAE and meeting Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, as well as his satisfaction with the positive development of the relations between the two countries, stressing his country's interest in promoting and developing mechanisms of joint cooperation, in particular with regard to the economic and investment fields.

The meeting also covered overall events and developments in regional and international arenas and exchanged views on a number of issues of common concern.

Later, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed hosted a banquet in honour of the Ugandan President and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting and the banquet was attended by Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler`s Representative, . Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs (ZHO), Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, along with a number of ministers and senior officials from civilian agencies and the military.

From the Ugandan side, the meeting was attended by Henry Okello Oryem, Uganda State Minister for International Affairs, other Ugandan Ministers and Mrs. Irene Florence Persis Wekiya, Ambassador of Uganda, along with a number of senior officials.
