Gen Mohammed attends Armed Forces celebrations

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, attended on Monday the celebrations held at the Zayed Military City to mark the 35th anniversary of the unification the armed forces.

Upon his arrival at the celebration venue, Sheikh Mohammed shook hands with senior officers of the armed forces led by Lieutenant-General Obaid Mohammad Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence and Lt General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.

Sheikh Mohammed conveyed to the military officers and staff, the greetings from President of UAE and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He asserted that the performance of the armed forces is a source of pride for the leadership as it protects the gains of the homeland and stays a symbol of loyalty and sacrifice to the leadership and the country. It is also a subject of pride for the fraternal countries as it stands beside them in times of calamities and tribulations. "The moral, ethical and humanitarian commitment of our armed forces have also earned a good reputation among the world community," Sheikh Mohammed added.

The celebrations were attended by Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Eastern Region, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Lt General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, adviser to His Highness the President, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and a number of sheikhs, ministers, ambassadors of the GCC countries, military personnel and other guests.
Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces delivered a speech in which he welcomed Sheikh Mohammed and offered greetings and best wishes to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

After the ceremonial speech, Sheikh Mohammed decorated 25 military officers of various ranks including a number of retired military personnel in recognition of their selfless work in the service of the nation.
