Khalifa congratulates Mohammed on being named Cultural Personality

The President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has congratulated His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on his selection as the Cultural Personality of the Year for the 9th edition of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award.
 
Sheikh Khalifa said, "The naming of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid as a cultural personality by this huge symbolic award which bears the name of late father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, is a deserved honour. Who else deserves this honour than my brother and life mate, whom I, the UAE citizens and the Arab and Islamic nation owe him so much because of the development, humanitarian and cultural achievements as well as their impact across the world."
 
"Honouring of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid is an honour for the founding fathers of the country, since he is the best person who carried on their legacy and completed their march wisely. He also led the march of progress and development with ambition, hope and determination with the will that does not know what is impossible. Here is our country, under his chairmanship of the UAE Government, developing in various domains year after year, and moving steadily towards achieving its vision The UAE Vision 2021," Sheikh Khalifa added.

Sheikh Khalifa concluded, "We congratulate Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid for this honour. Mohamed bin Zayed congratulates Mohammed bin Rashid

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has congratulated Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on his selection as the Cultural Personality of the Year by the Sheikh Zayed Book Award in its ninth session.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi said, "The naming of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid as the Cultural Personality of the Year by the Award is a tribute to the vision of a leader keen to record the name of the UAE in the golden annals of history, and to strengthen the country's position on the world stage. He has won one success after another, and one achievement after another in various development, knowledge, culture and other fields."

He added, "It is a tribute to the leader of a unique calibre who exerted his efforts to complete the process of development, and continues to build the state. He achieved the development, built the bridges of communication and optimism in line with the course set by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan."

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has acquired inspirational and model development and cultural experiences that took the UAE to new heights of progress, development, and civilisation . He added that his developmental and typical cultural experience have shown the world the possibility of coexistence of cultures and diversity along with tolerance, love and peace for the welfare of humanity.

He continued, "I congratulate my brother, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid on this honour," noting that his excellent initiatives complement the development process outlined by the late leaders, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Mohamed concluded, "I am pleased to take this opportunity to greet Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid: we are moving forward together with the loyal people of the UAE, propelled by your  positive and inexhaustible energy in the areas of innovation, creativity, excellence, and armed with science and knowledge to elevate the nation and enhance the dignity of citizens and humanity everywhere."  

Sheikh Zayed Book Award names Mohammed bin Rashid Cultural Personality of the Year

Earlier, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award committee had announced that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has been named as the Cultural Personality of the Award’s ninth session, 2014/2015. The award honours prominent figures for their distinguished contributions to the advancement of Arab culture, and for works that call for tolerance and promote peaceful coexistence.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during a press conference at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Jumaa Al Qubaisi, Member of the Board of Trustees, Executive Director of the National Library.

Following the declaration of Sheikh Mohammed as winner of the award, Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, President of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Tourism and the award’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Ali Bin Tamim, award’s secretary-general, and the members of the board extended their warmest congratulations and sincerest regards to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on winning this year’s award, which honours prominent figures, for his distinguished contributions to Arab culture.

Bin Tamim explained that the decision came as a tribute to Sheikh Mohammed being one of the most prominent agents of change in all walks of cultural development, with achievements ever expanding far and wide all over the world, fostering Arab culture, whether in creative work, intellectual endeavour, or promotion of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. Sheikh Mohammed’s work, Bin Tamim added, brings hope and optimism to creative individuals in all fields, exemplifying the very essence of the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in whose name the award is given.

Mohammed issues law to protect utilities in Dubai

In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai,  His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE,has issued Law No. 06 of 2015 on the protection of the electricity grid and public water system in the Emirate of Dubai.

Applicable in all districts within the Emirate of Dubai, including the special development zones, free zones and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the new law aims to protect the electricity and water infrastructure and maintain its availability to respond to growing demand. Further, the new law aims to assure quality of the services provided by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa).

The law prescribed the responsibilities delegated to Dewa to implement the rules and regulation pertaining to the law. These responsibilities and authorities include imposing the regulations required to protect Dubai’s electricity grid and public water system and granting permissions according to terms and conditions prescribed in this law and any other applicable regulations.

The law also authorised Dewa to establish a monitoring and control system and define the policies and procedures governing the system. The law also delegates Dewa to receive and investigate reports about violations against Dubai’s electricity grid and public water system and take any required measures in coordination with the concerned authorities. Additionally, the law authorised Dewa to assess and appraise the value of any damage occurring due to any violation against the electricity grid and public water system.

The law also defined the obligations of the permit holders, developers, owners and tenants in Dewa coverage areas.

Article 08 of the law defined the acts that are considered violation against the electricity grid, public water system and any other premises owned or operated by Dewa. The law prescribed the penalties and fines relevant to each violation.

The law authorised the Dewa CEO to assign Dewa employees as judicial officers, and they may investigate, draft and issue records of evidence reports in collaboration with the police.

This law annuls Law No. 02 of 1994  concerning protection of general network of electricity and water services; further the law annuls any other legislation that contradict its articles. Law No. 06 of 2015 is to be published in the Official Gazette and considered valid from the date of publication.
