Khalifa, Turkmen President hold discussions

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan meets President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan at Al-Diyafa Palace in Al-Mushrif (Wam)

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions today at Al Diyafa Palace in Al Mushrif, with the visiting Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, was present at the meeting.

Sheikh Khalifa welcomed the Turkmen President's visit and that of his accompanying delegation, expressing the hope that the visit would contribute to further bolstering friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries, in addition to opening up wider horizons of mutual collaboration in various fields.

The discussions focused on developing the distinguished bilateral relations between the UAE and Turkmenistan, in the light of the joint vision for the benefit of the two friendly countries in addition to achieving the joint interest of both sides.

The two leaders also discussed the development of relations between the GCC countries and the countries of Central Asia, in the light of the strategic importance of the two regions.

The discussions also dealt with a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest. The two parties emphasised the importance of regional and international cooperation in order to boost security and peace in the region.

Sheikh Khalifa expressed the UAE’s pride at the continuous development of joint relations, which would have positive results in terms of raising those relations to new levels, that would strengthen economic and investment partnerships for the advantage of the two friendly countries.

For his part, the Turkmen President congratulated Sheikh Khalifa on the UAE's 42nd National Day celebrations and Dubai's success in being selected as the host city for Expo 2020.

Berdimuhamedow expressed his pleasure at visiting the UAE and meeting with Sheikh Khalifa, referring to his country's respect, appreciation and gratitude for its relations with the UAE.

He also hailed the UAE's cultural achievement in all spheres, particularly its overall renaissance, which had enabled the UAE to have a prestigious status at regional and international levels. He also praised the country's wise political stances, thanks to the prudent leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa.

He expressed his wishes for more growth, welfare and development for the UAE and for good health and happiness for Sheikh Khalifa.

He also expressed his country's desire to extend bridges of bilateral cooperation into further collaboration, especially in the economic, investment, tourist and cultural fields, pointing out the encouraging elements of both sides in order to build constructive partnerships for the advantage of both sides.

The meeting also discussed ways to support investment between the UAE and Turkmenistan, particularly in the oil, gas, oil products and petrochemicals industries and renewable energy, through the joint committee at the level of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.

The two leaders attended the signing of a number of agreements and MoUs between the two countries, including a “Cooperation Programme” between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

The agreements were signed by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, on behalf of the UAE and Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The two sides also inked a MoU in the field of higher education between Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Gurbanmyrat Mezilov, President of the Academy of Science of Turkmenistan.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology NCMS and the Academy of Science of Turkmenistan also signed an MoU,  with the signatories being Ahmed Juma Al Za'abi, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs, and Gurbanmyrat Mezilov, President of the Academy of Science of Turkmenistan.

Ahmed Juma Al Za'abi and the Chairman of the Turkmen National Committee for Hydrometeorology, Batyr Halliyev also signed an MoU. The Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the two countries signed another MoU to establish the UAE-Turkemenistan Business Council, this being signed by Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs and Mergen Shalyev, Chairman of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.

The signing of the agreements and MoUs was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler`s Representative in the Eastern Region, Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler`s Representative, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Sheikh Omar bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, other Sheikhs and senior officials.
The accompanying delegation of the Turkemen President and Orazumyrat Gurbannazarov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the United Arab Emirates also attended the meeting.
