Martyrs gave blood to defend what is right: Saif bin Zayed

On the occasion of the UAE’s 44th National Day, Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, delivered a speech which reads as follows:

“At sunrise on each December 2, hearts are set aglow with the memory of the founding fathers whose words were resoundingly: “Yes to the Union!” With great resolve, our determined forefathers embarked upon a journey that leads to the highest peaks of glory. While this path has been fraught with difficulty, they remained steadfast in their biddings, in their oaths sworn to God, and in the pledges made to the Emirati people. December 2 is a day of bountiful harvest – and we have every right to be proud of our forefathers’ deeds.

“The radiance of today resonates throughout the year, fanning the flames of loyalty, belonging, and the determination to continue forth towards limitless horizons. The joy of the union is not merely confined to the people of the UAE, as other genuine Arabs also share our happiness in knowing that the UAE is the region’s sole example of a successful union. As mankind strives for a safe and civilised world, we have reached some of the highest accomplishments to ever have been garnered in history – and our success serves as a model for humanity in how to successfully develop a civilisation and its people.

“December 2 is a joyful day for the millions of families worldwide who are dependent on the prosperity of this generous country for their livelihood.  Through various noble stances, this great nation provides these families with opportunities that include humanitarian aid alongside hosting our foreign residents who seek to earn a decent life in an honest way. Today brings great delight to our brothers and friends all around the world for whom the Emiratis have given their souls and blood to defend what is right. It is a glorious day for the righteous, for the intellectuals, and for the innovators – the dreamers who aspire to witness communities that flourish with justice, tolerance, and safety; and where the human mind, spirit, and dignity freely thrive.

“As we celebrate this grand occasion, we revel in the size of the achievements that we have realised alongside the growing role and stature of the UAE in the international realm as one of the most influential countries in a myriad of fields. This great nation, the most prosperous and stable, is home to the virtual security force that serves as a beacon in the field of child protection; and is the region’s leader in scientific research, upholding the leading role of the Arab world in the space sciences. UAE is the defender of religious tolerance; as it protects the identity and heritage of the forefathers whilst balancing transparency with privacy, and freedom with discipline. Our nation and our rulers have made this day the happiest of all occasions, as it is a great source of pride for the people of the UAE. Our wise leaders have led this great nation towards its rightful position, placing the UAE at the forefront of nations. 

“On the event of this dear national occasion, I am honoured to extend my congratulations to the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; his brother His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; their brother His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and their brothers Their Highnesses Members of the Supreme Council Rulers of the Emirates; as well as to all the UAE people and residents on this sacred land.

“I cannot but pray for God Almighty to grant our valiant Armed Forces victory as they fight the war within the framework of ‘Operation Restoring Hope’, the Saudi-led Arab Coalition to support the legitimate government in Yemen. May God Almighty accept the deeds of our sacred martyrs and grant them heaven amongst the prophets and righteous people; and may God Almighty heal the wounds of our injured heroes,”  said Sheikh Saif bin Zayed.
