Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, has expressed pride in the UAE martyrs and praised them for going the path to an all-out win where they get one of the two best things: victory or martyrdom in response to the call of duty to defend Allah's religion, homeland and legitimacy in brotherly countries.

In a statement on the occasion of Commemoration Day (Martyrs Day), Sheikh Saif said: "The martyrs' names, sacrifices and heroism will always be a source of honour for our citizens as they showed solidarity, determination and intrepidity that frightened the enemies of Allah and life."

He described the martyrs as the second most honourable people after prophets as they sacrificed their lives for their country.

Their martyrdom is not a temporary event but an Emirati approach that is deeply rooted in the national psyche that stimulates further sacrifices and generous giving.

The UAE flag was flown today at half-mast at the Ministry of Interior in Abu Dhabi as part of the Commemoration Day.

Foreign Minister, Ruler's Representative mark Commemoration Day at MoFA

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, today (Monday) joined a ceremony to mark the Commemoration Day (Martyrs Day) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi.

Also present were Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Labour, Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Mer Al Raisi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the assistants to the foreign minister, employees of the ministry and families of the martyrs.

In a speech at the ceremony, Minister Ghobash praised the martyrs for their invaluable sacrifices and said they put their lives on the line and went for one of the two best things: victory or martyrdom.

The minister said the Emirati diplomacy also defends the country alongside guns, and noted that two of the martyrs, the late Saif Ghobash and Khalifa Al Mubarak, worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and were killed by treacherous hands.

The families of martyrs, including those of Ghobash and Al Mubarak, were honoured at the ceremony by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Hamdan also honoured the family of Dr. Ali Humaidan, the first Emirati ambassador after the establishment of the UAE Union and the author of the book entitled, ‘Saif Ghobash: Journey of Science and Politics,’ forwarded by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

At the Commemoration Day ceremony, the UAE flag was flown at half mast. A moment of silent prayer for the martyrs was observed and later the UAE National Anthem was played.

The Library at the MoFA was named after martyr Saif Ghobash.

In addition, the ministry's Diplomatic Club, inaugurated in July by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, was named after martyr Khalifa Al Mubarak.

The MoFA auditorium was named 'Martyrs Hall' as part of the Commemoration Day ceremony.
