Mohamed chairs Executive Council meet

General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, confirmed that the UAE, through the implementation of its comprehensive development vision, targets UAE nationals because they are the real wealth of the country and the main pillar of success for future development plans.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed further added that, ''Our wise leadership dedicates its attention to ensuring that the new generation of UAE nationals provided with education, knowledge and skills to face future challenges, and are enabled to construct a bright future for their country. Developmental projects currently being created are contributing in paving the way for the younger generations to actively participate in an effective and efficient manner in enhancing the society and the country.
 
This came as Sheikh Mohamed headed the Executive Council’s first meeting after the restructure, held at the Crown Prince's Court, where the council discussed the latest developments in projects relating to several sectors, and their contribution to the path of Abu Dhabi’s progress. The Council also discussed the plans of new and continuing projects and initiatives undertaken by the emirate, and the goals these projects are set to realise.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi stated, "The basis of Abu Dhabi’s vision is to build a generation capable of continuing the path of progress and development."

He also addressed the Executive Council members by adding, "Enormous responsibilities and duties face us as we continue our path of progress and prosperity, which requires us to be capable of upholding the responsibility that has been entrusted to us by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, realising the expectations of nationals in providing them with good and stable living standards, and a prosperous future for them and their children."

Dh37.3 billion for capital projects in 2014


The Council approved injecting financial allocations for capital projects during the ongoing timeframe of 2013-2017. A total of Dh330 billion will be distributed to various sectors, of which Dh37.3 billion are allocated for the current year. The allocations include Dh12.7 billion for housing and community facilities projects, Dh11.9 billion for government administration, Dh3.1 billion for economic projects, Dh2.5 billion for health sector projects and Dh 2.4 billion for the education sector.

The Council stressed that these allocations confirm the progress of the Emirate’s plans to develop its economy and support the private sectors’ involvement, as a key partner, in the development process toward achieving the objectives of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

Dh26.6 billion for social welfare

Upon the directives of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to ensure every citizen's welfare and stability, the Council approved allocating Dh 26.6 billion to various welfare projects in the current year. This is due to the water and electricity sector’s government subsidized bill reaching Dh17.5 billion, in addition to Dh568 million spent on food subsidies.
 
Execution approval for housing projects with 348 units in Al Shuwaib and Al Shuaibah

The Council decided to forward the design and execution of housing projects to contractors for an overall cost of Dh637.2 million. These housing projects include 348 housing units in Al Shuwaib and Al Shuaibah housing complexes in the eastern region of the emirate.

The overall area of Al Shuwaib housing complex is 390 thousand square meters. The complex will include 186 housing units, costing an estimated Dh333.9 million, while Al Shuaibah housing complex will include 162 housing units in a total area of 420 thousand square meters with an estimated cost of Dh 303.3 million.

Execution approval for infrastructure projects in Al Khrair and Al Rahba areas, as well as sectors in Mohamed bin Zayed City


The Council adopted a number of infrastructure projects in various regions in the emirates. The projects include electricity networks, drainage and rainwater systems, communications, parking lots, pedestrian crossings, and 161km long-roads to serve 4458 residential land plots costing Dh1.205 billion.

A 112km long road will be constructed in Al Khrair area in the eastern region of the emirate to serve 3023 residential land plots, with a total cost of Dh515 million. The Council also approved the internal roads project in Al Rahba city which includes the construction of a 29km long road and the infrastructure works related to services for 1181 residential land plots. The contract was divided in two to shorten the project duration with a total cost of Dh463 million.

The council approved the design and the construction of 20km road network in sectors M and I 3 to 7 in Mohamed bin Zayed City. The road network will provide services for 254 residential land plots and other governmental plots, with a total cost of Dh 237 million.

The EC’s approval of the housing and infrastructure projects’ execution comes within the framework of the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, which ensures providing citizens and their families with stable, dignified and decent  living standard. This decision is also a continuation of Abu Dhabi’s policy in making citizens the highest priority in the government’s plans.

Approval for building the National Rehabilitation Centre for Dh285 million


The Council has approved the selection and commissioning of a contractor to build the National Rehabilitation Center, which will include a centre for treating drug and alcohol addiction. The new centre aims to provide the social service of raising families’ awareness of drug addiction and their negative impact on individuals and the society, as well as eradicating addiction through spreading awareness and rehabilitating patients and their families.

The project includes a number of buildings for males and females, as well as recreational and administrative facilities. The center will be constructed in an overall area of 45,000 square meters and cost Dh285 million.

Approval for building road network, interchange and expansion projects for Abu Dhabi International Airport

The Council approved the contractor’s commissioning to execute the road network and the upper interchange at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, which will provide a direct connection between the Abu Dhabi- Al Shahama Highway and the airport complex. The road network includes secondary roads which will provide exits between the airport, parking lots, and the area of future development, costing Dh638.6 million. 
 
As part of the expansion of the airport, the council approved a number of projects including the construction of nine new airport aprons, the passenger automated transport system, and the construction of the basement tunnel under the airport’s southern runway. These projects are to be executed gradually with a total cost of Dh1.645 billion. The projects aim to meet increasing airport and passenger traffic and to raise the level of infrastructure readiness for the current expansions taking place in Abu Dhabi’s international airport and the new airport which will be lunched in the third quarter of 2017.
