Mohamed bin Zayed holds talks with President of South Korea

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has held official talks with the President of South Korea, Park Geun-hye, about friendship and co-operation, strategic common interests and a number of regional and international issues.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed received the Korean President, who is paying an official visit to the country, at a welcoming ceremony for the guest, where a band played the national anthems of the two countries, and the Artillery Regiment fired a 21-gun salute in honour of the guest.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed shook hands and greeted the senior officials accompanying President Park Geun-hye, who also shook hands with a number of Sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.

At the outset of the talks, Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the Korean President, expressing delight at the visit and hoped that it would contribute towards further strengthening the long-standing friendly bilateral relations and co-operation.

''The UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, maintains rock solid ties with friendly Korea. These ties enjoy high esteem and significant attention from the leaderships of both countries,'' Sheikh Mohamed said, referring to the ever-growing development the two countries are undergoing in many sectors in light of the desire of both countries to transform their common vision into reality through implementation of joint vital, mega projects and partnerships in educational, cultural, trade and medical fields.

''Your Excellency's visit to the UAE today underpins the depth of friendly ties between our countries and peoples. And as we welcome Your Excellency to Abu Dhabi, we are extremely pleased to add along with you a new chapter in the evolving UAE - Korea relations based on the common vision of the leadership of both countries to advance them for mutual interests,'' HH added.
Sheikh Mohamed and President Geun-hye discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties under the umbrella of the strong, outstanding friendship bonds and common strategic interests.

The talks also reviewed the state of affairs of the joint co-operation in diverse areas as economy, education, trade, investment, nuclear energy and health, along with proper methods to promote them for serving the interests of the two countries and ambitions of the friendly peoples of both countries for even more vibrant development and progress.

Harnessing their resources and abilities and guided by a common vision, the UAE and Korea had successfully developed advanced industrial sectors, established qualitative investment, launched joint effective programmes and projects, qualified human resources and administrative systems, HH said.

President Geun-hye said she was glad to visit the UAE and confer with its leaders on the best means to solidify bilateral ties, explore avenues for wider joint co-operation in all fields so as to serve mutual interests.

South Korea, she added, was looking forward to wider co-operation and co-ordination with the UAE in economic, developmental and trade domains.

As they exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments of mutual concern, HH and the Korean President emphasised that prevalence of security and stability in the region constitutes a key mainstay to sustainable development and progress in the region. In this regard, they affirmed the need for concerted efforts and co-operation to confront extremism, violence and terrorism and work together to attain peace, security, and peaceful co-existence among countries and peoples in the region.

Present from the UAE side were Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President ,Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development,Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD),Mariam bint Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs ,Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education ,Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health, Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water ,Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, and a number of other Sheikhs, ministers and top civilian and military officials.

Those attended from the Korean side were Korea s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yun Byung-se, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Yoon Sang-jick, Minister for Health and Welfare Moon Hyung-pyo, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Lee Dong-phil, and a number of senior Korean officials.
