His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday witnessed the launch of Umm Al Quwain Strategy 2011-2013.

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain was also present on the occasion.

Also present at the Umm Al Quwain Cultural Center were Umm Al Quwain Crown Prince Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla; Director of Umm Al Quwain Ruler's Court Sheikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Mualla, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Director of Dubai Ruler's Office Lt General Musabbah Rashid Al Fattan, other ministers, senior officials and heads of government agencies in Umm Al Quwain.

The new three-year strategy focuses on four key areas: the general economy, heritage, infrastructure and public sector development.

The strategy represents the general framework for essential future projects in the emirate and is in line with the objectives of the Federal Strategy 2011-2013 and the UAE Vision 2021.

At the outset of the ceremony Sheikh Mohammed, Sheikh Saud and the assembled guests watched a documentary film on life in the UAE before and after unification, with special focus given to the country's achievements under the leadership of the UAE's founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed.

The Ruler of Umm Al Quwain welcomed Sheikh Mohammed in an address delivered on his behalf by Umm Al Quwain Crown Prince Sheikh Rashid bin Saud. The speech went on to stress that the emirate's efforts, including the launch of the ambitious strategy, is an extension of the vision of Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohammed, which seeks to enhance the socio-economic welfare of all UAE nationals.

The strategy launch comes on the back of Sheikh Mohammed's earlier visit to Umm Al Quwain, when he held a ministerial meeting on building a joint federal-local work group to promote the exchange of ideas and develop the emirate's strategy.

It is expected that the strategy launch will contribute effectively to the overall growth of the UAE, in compliance with federal government strategy. The plan also specifies a clear timetable to ensure that all goals are met on schedule.

Sheikh Saud reiterated that the objective of the strategy is to build a better future for the people and that the government of Umm Al Quwain would work to achieve national goals.

Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Saud then stood for photos with the team that developed the new strategy, congratulating them team on their achievements and wising them further success in serving the country and its institutions.

Earlier Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Saud toured an exhibition organised by the Umm Al Quwain Archeology and Heritage Department, featuring photographic displays and artifacts detailing the UAE's rich history.
