Mohammed approves education plan

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has endorsed the 2015-2021 plan of the Ministry of Education, that stresses innovation as a key factor in the coming years.

He also directed speeding up the plan's implementation, stressing the importance of developing the educational process in the UAE widening its concept and bringing it on par with modern scientific ideas, thus leading to innovation in the sector to attain the objectives of the national agenda indicators as given in the UAE Vision 2021.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, while launching the strategy, said, "Thanks to the keen interest shown by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the field of education, the coming years will witness a complete change in the educational system, which would basically be built on innovation and will be aligned with the national strategy of innovation." He added that the strategy focuses on knowledge integration in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and other fields, all of which contribute towards strengthening the knowledge economy.

Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs; Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs; and Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education were present.

Sheikh Mohammed added, "We do care about the future of the Emirati citizens and need to see their educational contributions, which would add to the country's march towards renaissance, thus making a quantum leap in this sector inevitable."

"We look forward to acquiring the latest 21st century skills and are preparing a generation of innovators and talented persons through encouraging a national culture that encourages innovation," he added.

He also pointed out, "I feel happy when I see the Emirati students' achievements, not only in case of university students or graduates, but also of those in primary stages. We wish that every U.A.E. student becomes a model of innovation and invention for the benefit of the U.A.E.'s people and society."

Sheikh Mohammed affirmed, "I am directly supervising and following up the educational process, and the government will ensure all kinds of support. Everyone should shoulder his or her responsibilities."

He also underlined the importance of developing national evaluation tests at par with international standards, preparing unified educational standards in order to move towards collaborative education which is based on innovation and best utilisation of modern technology.

He also urged educators to pay extra attention to talented students at all schools and stages, stressing that educational plans should keep pace with developments in other sectors and must help build a national knowledge-based economy.

Mohammed bin Rashid receives CEO of Citigroup

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Tuesday received Michael L. Corbat, Chief Executive Officer of Citigroup, at the headquarters of the Executive Office of Sheikh Mohammed in Emirates Towers.

Sheikh Mohammed exchanged views with the guest on various global financial issues and investment activities in the banking sector. The talks took place in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority.

Sheikh Mohammed welcomed the participants in the meeting of the board of directors of the group, taking place in Dubai for the first time in the Middle East and for the second time outside the headquarter.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed underscored that Dubai has always welcomed its guests and opened its doors for companies for global investments, businessmen looking for a safe investment environment and excellent facilities, as well as logistics capabilities that ensure the presence of all the elements needed for success, development and stability.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Citigroup along with the members of the Board of Directors and Executive Directors of the group's branches around the world gathered in the city of Dubai. They  expressed their happiness at the selection of Dubai, after the meeting held in London, for the Board of Directors to meet for the second time outside the United States.

He extended his thanks to Sheikh Mohammed on the excellent facilities that the group's branches in the UAE enjoy, and said it enhances the stature of the group in the region and strengthens the mutual confidence between the group and the U.A.E. government and institutions, as well as the private sector.

The meeting was also attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group; Mohammed Ibrahim AI Shaibani, Director-General of  the Ruler's Court, Government of Dubai; and Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director-General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai, along with a number of Executive Directors of the Citigroup.

Mohammed bin Rashid receives Duke of Westminster

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Tuesday received Britain's Duke of Westminster.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, were present.

Sheikh Mohammed and the Duke had cordial discussions on cultural and tourist relations between the UAE and UK in general and the cities of Dubai  and Westminster  in particular.

The Duke congratulated Sheikh Mohammed on the UAE's winning the bid to host the World Expo 2020 in Dubai, saying that Dubai deserved the win, given its prominent  international profile. He also praised the progress of the UAE under its wise leadership, which he said had provided its people with all amenities of comfortable life and happiness, and had built cultural, economic and humanitarian bridges with other nations of the world.
