Mohammed heads Global Initiatives board

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has endorsed the Board of Trustees of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives under his chairmanship and to be deputised by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

While the Board of Trustees' membership includes Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority, Princess Haya bint Hussein, Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a number of figures in development and humanitarian fields, and Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of the Cabinet Affairs, and Secretary General of the new Foundation.

The Board of Trustees' membership also includes Humaid Mohammed Al Qattami, Reem Al Hashimi, Ibrahim Bu Melha, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Mona Al Marri, Sami Al Qamzi, Hamad Al Shaibani, Jamal bin Al Huwairab, Raja Al Qurg, and Abdullah Al Basti, Assistant Undersecretary of the new foundation.

The Foundation will also launch the largest and most comprehensive development programme in the Arab region, focusing on human development in an integrated manner, starting with providing the basic human needs for health, fighting illiteracy and poverty by providing knowledge, disseminating culture and developing education network.

It will also work in parallel on developing a new generation of young Arab leaders, supporting real change in the area of good governance in the region and providing the largest incubator for Arab innovators, scientists and researchers.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid launched this morning the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, one of the largest development and community foundation in the Middle East region.

The new foundation consolidates the work of 28 organisations focussing on fighting poverty and illness, spreading knowledge and culture, empowering the community and driving innovation. Combined, the foundation's initiatives will implement over 1,400 human development programmes in more than 116 countries around the world.

Mohammed named ‘Aviation Man of the Year’

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has been given the title of  ‘The Aviation Man of the Year’ by the Civil Aviation Sector on the occasion of UAE Civil Aviation Day, marked on October 5 every year.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, while congratulating Sheikh Mohammed said: “This occasion takes me back to 1985 when Sheikh Mohammed  gave directives to the team which was at the time supervising the management of the Emirates Airline and how his directives helped the airline develop and achieve progress as we can see now.”

Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, said: “The selection of  Sheikh Mohammed as the ‘Aviation Man of the Year’ is an honour to the UAE Civil Aviation Day because the title is given to a man who spared no effort to improve the UAE civil aviation sector within the framework of a prudent vision that balanced between gaining advanced positions on the international civil aviation level and maintaining a remarkable level of high-quality, secure and safe aviation.”

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, said: “It is difficult to count the achievements made by Sheikh Mohammed in the aviation field.
“He made strategic plans for continuous sustainable development and enhanced the contribution of aviation to the UAE economy and welfare.”
