Mohammed hails role of Arabic language

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has stressed the importance of Arabic language, being the language of life, science and thought.

"The Arabic language is one of the constants that cannot be compromised. It is the main element and component of national, Arab and Islamic identity," he said, noting that the UAE takes interest in promoting the Arabic language in the community through launching a number of programmes and initiatives.

Sheikh Mohammed made the remarks after meeting the Board of Trustees members of Arabic Language Award headed by Farouk Shousha, Secretary-General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Arabic Language Award, in the Executive office in Dubai.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and  Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs.

He noted that "Arabic language is the lifeline of the nation, its history, pride, symbol of civilisation and culture, and the basis for our progress and prosperity," adding that the Award is part of initiatives and programmes to further develop the Arabic language.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed was briefed on the latest achievements and future plans of the Award. He discussed with the Board of Trustees members ways to strengthen the Award and upgrade its role in disseminating the Arabic language in public life.

Mohammed bin Rashid condoles family of National Service recruit

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has offered condolences to the family of the national service recruit Mohammed Khalid Khalifa Al Raisi, who died after a sudden heart attack at the Armed Forces Residences last night.

Sheikh Mohammed, who was accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, visited the family residence at Al Salamat Area in Al Ain, and prayed for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace.

Accompanying Sheikh Mohammed on his visit were Chairman of the National Service Staff Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Director of Dubai Ruler's Office Lt. General Musabbah Rashid Al Fattan and Dubai Director of Protocol and Hospitality Khalifa Saeed Suleiman.
