His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Sunday honoured pioneering teachers and students of Al Ahmadiyah School on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first school in Dubai.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of the Federal National Council, and Sheikh Majed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, attended the ceremony held at the headquarters of the Culture and Sciences Symposium in Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed presented shields to 34 veteran teachers and children of deceased educators.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed his delight at meeting the educators, some of whom had taught him, and shook hands with them and recalled the pleasant memories during his learning days.

Sheikh Mohammed wished good health and long life to those who are alive and prayed to the Almighty for departed souls.

The Vice President then honoured nearly 130 prominent personalities who had attended Al Ahmadiyah School.

Al Ahmadia School, popularly known as Umm Al Madaares (Mother of Schools), is Dubai's first and oldest seat of learning. It was built by a group of founding fathers led by the late Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed bin Dalmouk.
