Mohammed issues bylaws on diseases

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued bylaws No (8) of 2013 pertaining combating animal communicable diseases and prevention measures.

Pursuant to Cabinet Resolution No (25) of 2014, the bylaw specifies the prevention measures to combating animal communicable diseases and epidemics.

As per the bylaw, animal’s owners and veterinaries should inform the concerned bodies or police about the emergence of animal disease or epidemic threat.

The concerned bodies and police shall then inform the Ministry of Environment and Water in a 24-hour period. Further, animal wealth departments in UAE shall also report to the Ministry of Environment and Water any incident of disease threats and the preventive procedures followed in this regards.

Article two of the bylaw published in the official gazette stipulate that the Minister shall issue a decision concerning an outbreak of animal disease and epidemic if it occurs in a certain area and shall also issue a decision to declare the area free of any threats.

The bylaw further regulates procedures of monitoring animal communicable diseases, epidemic investigation, reporting diseases and preventive measures against communicable and epidemics.
