Mohammed launches UAE's e-portal, approves budgets

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai has stressed that e-transformation in UAE. He said and the provision of federal and local services through one gateway contributes to enhance the state's competitiveness and opens up broader prospects for direct communication with community groups. It works to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of government work in the state.

He said this while chairing the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi. It was attended by Lt General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Sheikh Mohammed witnessed the launch of UAE's e-portal.

The meeting discussed and approved budgets of three federal entities with a total value of Dh670 million under the cabinet's direction to follow up the direct financial performance of the federal entities to ensure a balanced financial performance and higher operational efficiency for the general budget of the Federal Government.

The meeting also discussed four notes from the Foreign Ministry relating to boosting relations and strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation with the four countries: Italy, Spain, Brazil and Australia.

The cabinet approved the programmes and performance budget for the Marriage Fund for fiscal year 2011 amounting to Dh224m of which Dh19m is the fund's income and Dh204m representing direct government support.

The cabinet stressed the importance that the fund plays as a key role in raising family awareness and achieving the stability of UAE's families. Also Dh13m has been allocated to achieve this goal through education programmes and building partnerships with authorities concerned with youth, family and community issues.

In the meeting, the cabinet approved the budget of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments for the year 2011 with a total value of Dh412m, including Dh50m to activate the role of the Holy Quran Memorisation Centres at the state level in 2011.

The cabinet also approved the budget of the Federal Customs Authority for 2011 with a value of Dh35m, including income worth Dh10m, and governmental support worth Dh25m.

The cabinet stressed the importance of the continued development of the customs work in the country to facilitate trade between the UAE and different countries of the world. In this concern, the cabinet approved Dh11m for the development of practices and improving customs procedures.

The cabinet approved the final accounts for each of the Federal Customs Authority and the Real Estate Bank and the Emirates Real Estate Corporation, Higher Committee for UAE Civil Seaports and Airports Security.

Mohammed receives Algerian Finance Minister

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received Algerian Finance Minister Karim Djoudi at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday morning.

The visiting minister is leading the Algerian delegation participating in the Joint Economic Committee with the UAE.

Djoudi conveyed greetings to Sheikh Mohammed on behalf of the Algerian President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, in addition to the good wishes of the prime minister and government of Algeria.

During the meeting the leaders discussed ways to boost trade and economic cooperation between their countries for the benefit of their peoples.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of Arab unity in the field of economics to enhance prosperity and living standards for all in the Arab world.

Also present at the meeting were Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Economy and head of the UAE Algerian delegation participating in the Joint Economic Committee Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai Ruler's Office Lt General Musabbah Rashid Al Fattan, Dubai Director of Protocol and Hospitality Khalifa Saeed Suleiman and other senior officials.
