Mohammed meets Argentine President

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Thursday met President of Argentina Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner at the Presidential Palace in Buenos Aires as part of his official tour to South America.

Upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace accompanied by an official high-level delegation, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid inspected the guard of honour, shook hands with President Kirchner and a number of Argentine ministers before the national anthems of UAE and Argentina were played.

President Kirchner wished for a good stay and successful visit for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting which was attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and President Kirchner discussed ways of bolstering friendly relations and cooperation between UAE and Argentina, ways of expanding their standing trade, cultural and tourism cooperation into joint investments by the private sectors of the two countries as well as exchanging expertise in different sectors towards forging fruitful partnerships in the service of the common interests of the two countries and in light of their governments' support for such steps contributing building new bridges between the peoples of UAE and Argentina.

UAE, Argentina sign MoC on peaceful use of nuclear energy

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner on Thursday attended the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The MoC was signed by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, and Julio De Vido, Argentina's Minister of Federal Planning, Public Investment, & Services.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed satisfaction at the signing of the agreement which he described as the prelude to further bilateral cooperation between the two countries and as one the good results of his visit to Argentina.

He also described Argentina as a country that is rich in natural resources and national brains and enjoys a leadership which seeks to forge new international partnerships in order to produce cooperation that is fruitful for all.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid noted that during his talks with the Argentine president he found a sincere desire for building strong and multi-faceted bridges with UAE, in mutual investment and exchanging visits in particular.

On her part, the Argentine president affirmed that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid's visit means a lot for her and the Argentine people and that she is interested in his historic visit which represents only a first step especially after the signing of the MoC on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

President Kirchner also expressed her delight at receiving His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid's invitation to visit UAE and promised to put it at the top of her near-future priorities.

The signing ceremony was attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State , Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director General of the Court of the Ruler of Dubai, Lt. General Misbah bin Rashid Al Fattan, Director of the Court of His Highness the Vice-President and Prime Minister, Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director- General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai, Abdul Khaleq Ali Al Yafei'e, UAE Ambassador to Argentine and a number of Argentine ministers and officials.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Thursday laid a wreath at the General Jose de San Martin Memorial, the statue memorial of Argentine general, independence leader and national hero Jose de San Martin.

Accompanied by members by his delegation, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was saluted by the honour of guard upon arrival at the monument located in Plaza San Martin in the Argentine capital city.

Jose de San Martin is considered the symbol of freedom and national hero and liberator of Argentine, Chile and Peru and the prime leader of their successful struggle for independence. He became the first president of Peru between 1821 and 1822.
