His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has inaugurated Al Jalila Child Culture Centre on Wasl Street in Jumeirah in the presence of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

After unveiling the memorial plaque for the centre, the first of its kind in the Middle East, Sheikh Mohammed, accompanied by his daughter Sheikha Al Jalila, toured the centre, where he was briefed on the objectives and child cultural activities supported by the centre.

The centre aims to create an exemplary environment to teach the country's children about their culture and ways to innovate and build capacity, and incorporate Emirati heritage into their lives.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed his satisfaction over the completion of the child-oriented cultural and educational project, noting that he hoped the centre's board of trustees, led by his wife Princess Haya bint Hussein, would support the role of the centre in raising a new generation equipped with knowledge and culture.

He underlined that education alone is insufficient if it is not associated with the national culture and knowledge of other cultures, adding that "This is part of the message of the centre."

Among those present were Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Lt. General Mohammed Abdul Rahim Al Ali, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Khalifa Saeed Sulieman, Director-General of the Department of Protocols and Hospitality in Dubai, and other societal and cultural figures.
