Mohammed orders release of 554 prisoners

Benevolent gesture is given to mark the advent of Ramadan

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the release of 554 prisoners, among whom 93 are nationals, from various penitentiaries in the Dubai emirate.

The benevolent gesture is given to mark the advent of Ramadan, the month of mercy and forgiveness.

Attorney General of the Emirate of Dubai Councilor Essam Al Humaidan said that the amnesty reflects the keenness of Sheikh Mohammed to allow the released prisoners an opportunity to engage in social life, to correct their path and start a new page in life as righteous members of the society, doing good to their families and the community at large.

"This generous gesture of clemency will give them a golden opportunity to start a decent life and will bring happiness to their families as we stand on the threshold of the holy month of Ramadan," Humaidan added.

The Public Prosecution Department in Dubai has already started making preparations for the implementation of the decree.
