His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received on Monday evening at Zabeel Palace Islamic scholars who are visiting the UAE as guests of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during Ramadan. Members of the organising and jury committees of Dubai International Holy Quran Award and other guest lecturers, orators and Holy Quran reciters were also present.

During the audience, attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, the guests offered greetings to Sheikh Mohammed on the occasion of Ramadan.

Sheikh Mohammed welcomed the guest scholars and wished them a pleasant stay in the UAE during the holy month and urged them to exert more effort in advising youth who deviate from the tolerant teachings and values of Islam.

"Islam means peace and The Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said Al Salam (peace) is on Allah (SWT) names," he said.

Sheikh Mohammed called on the scholars to play a crucial role in eliminating terrorism and extremist thoughts spreading among the youth.

"Islam is the religion of tolerance, purity, love and brotherhood. Without our belief, we lose our 'raison d'etre' because it is embedded in our day-to-day life," he added.

The scholars praised the keenness of the UAE, under the wise leadership of Sheikh Khalifa to mark the holy month in the best way and to serve Islam and Muslims around the world.

They also hailed Sheikh Mohammed's patronage of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award and his humanitarian and charitable initiatives.

After performing Maghreb prayer, the guests attended an iftar banquet hosted by Sheikh Mohammed.

Present were Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director of Dubai Ruler's Court; Ibrahim Mohammed Bu Melha, Advisor to Dubai Ruler for Cultural and Humanitarian affairs; Dr. Mohammed Matar Al Kaabi, Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs; and Awqaf and Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of Dubai Protocol and Hospitality Department.
