Mohammed receives Italian PM, Apple CEO

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Sunday received Prime Minister Enrico Letta of Italy and his accompanying delegation at his Palace in Zabeel .

Present at the meeting was Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed and Mr. Letta exchanged talks on a number of mutual and regional issues in the presence of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

During the meeting, the two sides focussed on ways to enhance trade, investment and other fields of mutual interest, such as customs and privatisation between the two countries.

Sheikh Mohammed affirmed that the UAE is always working on opening up new channels with various friendly countries in order to discuss cooperation possibilities in various fields, especially issues which would benefit the UAE, its people and these countries.

The Vice President welcomed the Italian Prime Minister's visit to the UAE, saying, "This is a friendship visit, which will open up broader horizons to discover new domains so as to build economic and investment."

The Italian Prime Minister praised the cultural boom being witnessed by the UAE in all avenues, expressing the desires of the Italian government, its people and the private sector to expand cooperation and partnership fields with the UAE, especially as Italy has a privatisation programme which would avail new investment opportunities.

He also invited Emirati investors to build partnerships with Italian businesspersons and companies. He pointed out that 300 Italian companies are operating in the UAE in various fields.

He also hailed the humanitarian stance of the UAE leadership, government and people, highlighting the aid provided by the UAE for various peoples all over the world, which are prone to natural catastrophes, wars or diseases.

Among those who attended the meeting were Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy and Head of the Honorary mission accompanying the Italian Prime Minister, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State, Mohammed Ibrahim AI Shaibani, Director-General of the Ruler's Court, Government of Dubai, Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zones and Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director-General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai.

From the Italian side, the accompanying delegation and the Ambassador of Italy to the UAE Giorgio Starace attended the meeting.

Mohammed bin Rashid, PM of  Italy attend signing of two MoUs

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, and Enrico Letta, Prime Minister of Italy, on Sunday witnessed the signature ceremony of two memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the UAE Italy.

The first memorandum of understanding is on cooperation between Dubai's Expo 2020 and Milan Expo 2015. The memorandum of understanding was signed from the Emirati side by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Emirates Group Sheikh and Chairman of the Expo 2020 Preparatory Committee, and from the Italian side Giuseppe Sala, Milan Expo 2015 Commissioner.

The second memorandum of understanding is a cooperation agreement between Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zones and the Italian Customs and Commercial Privileges Agency. The MoU was signed by Chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zones, Sultan Ahmad bin Sulayem and and the Italian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Giorgio Starace.

Sheikh Mohammed commended the MoU's signature, expressing his enthusiasm and hope that these two agreements will boost cultural, commercial and tourist cooperation between the two countries.

Distribution of 180 houses to citizens in Barsha district ordered

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the commencement of distribution of 180 houses in Barsha South 1 district. The houses are part of project of 1, 240 houses in Barsha at cost Dh204 million.

Among those houses, 31 will be distributed to beneficiaries as a grant and 149 as a loan, while 430 were distributed to the two categories in the first and second phases.

The move comes in line with keenness of Sheikh Mohammed on ensuring the decent living conditions for Emiratis and appropriate accommodation for each family in the Emirate of Dubai.

Sami Abdullah Gargash, Executive Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment, said the establishment is keen on speedy implementation of the instructions of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, on construction and allocation of houses to the citizens in Dubai. 

Mohammed bin Rashid receives Apple CEO

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, received on Sunday in the presence of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Sheikh Mohammed and Cook discussed an array of issues regarding future of the IT sector in the backdrop of international transformations and the sector's role in developing and advancing education.

Sheikh Mohammed hailed Apple's role in developing technology and IT-based education worldwide.

Cook credited the UAE as one of the leading role models in application of e-government and it is on track to introduce smart government under the patronage and directives of Sheikh Mohammed, whom he praised as a visionary leader who holds constructive breakthrough initiatives especially in education and IT in order to position the UAE government in general and Dubai government in particular among the firsts using technology in management and services.

Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs and other senior officials attended the meeting.
