Mohammed receives US Secretary Johnson

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday received US Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Charles Johnson, and his accompanying delegation.

Also present was Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed and the U.S. official reviewed the overall relations of cooperation and friendship between the U.A.E. and the United States, especially in the field of strategic security cooperation and ways to boost peace and security on regional and international levels.

The meeting also covered security and political changes in the Arab region and the Middle East.

Mr. Johnson commended the level of cooperation between the two countries, which he said contributes to achieving the objectives of the two sides and the two friendly peoples in security, stability and prosperity.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State, Major-General Khamis Matar AI Mazeina, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and a number of senior officials.

Michael H. Corbin, Ambassador of the U.S.A. to the U.A.E., was also present.

Mohammed reviews RTA development projects

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was briefed on Wednesday on a number of the strategic development plans of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The projects are being implemented in Dubai until year 2020, which coincides with Dubai Expo 2020, one of the most important international events.

He was accompanied by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Lt. General Misbah bin Rashid AI Fattan, Director of the Office of the Vice-President and Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai. 

Sheikh Mohammed and his accompanying delegation were briefed on the details of ambitious strategic and development projects, including the development of Dubai Creek routes, public transport including Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, buses, maritime transport and taxis.

In his presentation, Mattar Mohammad Al Tayer, RTA's Chairman of the Board & Executive Director, said that the plans include the development and widening of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road and finding effective solutions to ease the traffic jam on this vital street through constructing bridges and new subways.

He also got familiarised with the development plan of public transport and routes of bicycles to increase their number to 900 until year 2030, as per the directives of Sheikh Mohammed.

Sheikh Mohammed expressed his satisfaction on the projects of the RTA, stressing that they will be implemented as per the highest standards, and will serve citizens and expatriate residents, visitors and tourists as well.

Mohammed amends law on Hamdan bin Mohammed e-University

In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has issued Law No (9) of 2014 partially amending Law No (13) of 2009 on the Establishment of Hamdan bin Mohammed E-University.  The law amends the name of the university to become “Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University.

Additionally, the law amends some of the authorities of university’s President, Board of Governors, Chancellor and departments. The amendment aims to implement best practices used in international academic organisations.

The amendment also mirrors the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to transform Dubai into smart city, keep pace with the rapid developments taking place in the field of e-education and enable the university to provide high-quality educational services.

Pursuant to the law, the faculty and staff of Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University are subject to special rules and regulations that organise and govern their duties and rights. This amendment aims to enable the university to attract high-calibre professionals that have distinguished achievements and qualifications in the field of smart-education and retain the expertise already working in the university.

The impact of the new legislation


Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Chairman of Board of Governors of Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University, asserted that the university is the first e-education specialised university in the Middle East. He added that amending the law on the establishment of Hamdan bin Mohammed E-University responds to the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to transform the local and federal governments into smart-governments and also in line with his initiative to transform Dubai smart city.

Lt. General Tamim concluded that revising and amending Law No (13 of 2009 enables the university to provide smart educational programmes and state-of-the-art services to individuals and organisations.

Chancellor of Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University Dr. Mansoor Al Awar said that the university has successfully graduated 270 under-graduate and post-graduate students last February from three colleges. He noted the increase in the numbers of graduates year after year which reflects the increasing trust from the academia in the university as the first choice for e-education and distance learning.

Mohammed promotes 3,347 Dubai Police officers

In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has issued a decree promoting Director General of Department of Training, Dubai Police Brigadier Ahmed Hamdan bin Dalmouk to Major General.

Additionally, Sheikh Mohammed has promoted Col. Dr. Mohamed Nasser Al Razooqi, Col. Dr. Ali Singel, Col. Khalifa Hassan Al Darai and Col. Ahmed Ateq Saeed Al Maqudi to brigadiers. Pursuant to the decree, 3,347 police officers and other staff are promoted.

Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police Major General Khamis Matar Al Mazeina asserted that the decree Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid promoted four colonels to brigadiers, five lieutenant colonels to colonels, six majors to lieutenant colonel, 32 captains to majors, 39 first lieutenants to majors and 125 second lieutenants to first lieutenants.

Major General Al Mazeina thanked Shaikh Mohammed for his kind support to Dubai Police and congratulated the promoted officers. On the other side, and on behalf of Dubai Police Officers and staff, Al Mazeina conveyed to Sheikh Mohammed the gratitude of Dubai Police Officers.
