His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Sunday attended a meeting to review the progress on UAE’s bid to host the World Expo 2020 at the Emirates Towers in Dubai.

The Higher Committee for Hosting the World Expo 2020 gave a detailed presentation highlighting its efforts to sell UAE's strengths as the best destination to host this international event in Dubai under the theme "Connecting Minds... Building the Future."

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed praised the level of preparations and the efforts of the Higher Committee to host the World Expo 2020 and expressed confidence in their ability to make this national quest a reality. He gave instructions to intensify communications with Asian and African member countries in the BIE to win their vote of support.

The meeting was attended by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Hosting the World Expo 2020 Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum in addition to Deputy Chairman and members of the committee.

The Higher Committee will present a dossier detailing UAE's credentials to the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) in Paris where representatives from 161 BIE member countries will convene to examine bids by four candidate cities applying to host the event. The BIE meeting next December will review bids by Izmir, Turkey; Ayutthaya, Thailand; Ekaterinburg, Russia and Sao Paulo, Brazil prior to the voting process which is scheduled for November 2013.

The dossier includes details on why Dubai is best suited to host the event. It sheds light on the dedicated area of approximately 450 acres to host the event in Dubai and its proximity to the state-of-the-art Al Maktoum International Airport and Jebel Ali Port in addition to world-class infrastructure in communications, transportation, tourist facilities, entertainment attractions, logistics and security measures.

The World Expo is one of the largest international events organised for more than 150 years. It takes place every five years and lasts up to six months. It is expected that the event will attract as much as 25 million visitors from all over the world if Dubai succeeds to be the first city to host the World Expo 2020 in the Middle East.
