Mohammed stresses freedom of press

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in the presence of Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, met in Dubai on Tuesday the Thomson Reuters CEO Tom Glocer, who was accompanied by a number of officials at Reuters in the UAE.

At the meeting held in Madinat Jumairah, Sheikh Mohammed and Gloser exchanged views on a number of economic, political and media issues in the region and discussed the role of the media as an observer in reflecting the regional and global events in their true perspective in the speedy and unbiased way.

Sheikh Mohammed also stressed the importance of providing a space of freedom for the press and the media persons in general enabling them to perform their mission to the fullest. He highlighted the UAE policy in this matter, which gives freedom of movement, work and opinion to the local and foreign journalists, stressing that this policy stems out of the faith of the country's leadership in the role of the media in conveying the image in a clear and transparent way though holding the mirror against all the happenings across the economic, social, cultural and political landscape without bias or dictation.
 
The Reuters Chief Executive thanked His Highness on his commitment to transparency as well as his communication with the media as it has strengthened the mutual trust between the government and private institutions and media representatives in the UAE.

Glocer praised the facilities the country has extended to the media and its workers, who enjoy a substantial portion of liberty, safety and stability at every level.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and a number of senior officials.
