Mohammed to outline his vision today

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will open today the two-day Government Summit under the theme 'Leading Governments Services'.

Led by the vision of Sheikh Mohammed for the future of Government in the UAE, the Government Summit aims to be a platform for innovation, knowledge sharing, and the strengthening of national efforts towards achieving the goals of UAE Vision 2021.

The Government Summit, billed as the largest government gathering in the region and the Arab world, serves as a new platform to develop government work and services and enable the government sector to achieve excellence, which is crucial to achieve Vision 2021.

Sheikh Mohammed will answer the questions of citizens and journalists regarding his vision for the progress of government work during the forthcoming period as well as the most important principles of government leadership. He will also elaborate on the Government's national priorities to achieve 2021 Vision, which he launched three years ago aiming to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world.

Speakers at the Government Summit will include Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, who will discuss a number of issues concerning government performance.

Mohammed Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Summit, said the high-profile event receives direct patronage and proper care of Sheikh Mohammed whose engagement will add a fresh momentum to the government performance.

The Government Summit 2013, he added, provides a unique world platform to discuss what occupies the minds of policy makers in regards to improvement of government services and latest studies in that respect.

Gargawi noted that announcement of Sheikh Mohammed's engagement in the summit interactive sessions had generated overwhelming turnout, prompting the organisers to raise the maximum capacity of participants from 2,000 to 2,500 and to close the door for registration and apolgise for new delegates.

The summit will host several speakers from around the world and specialised research centres in government development. It will discuss expertise from Denmark, Canada, Australia, South Korea and Brazil as well as a number of successful local experiences.

The Summit, which will host delegates representing UAE, the Arab region and other parts of the world as well as several national, regional and international government leaders and experts, aims to achieve the objectives of improving government services, strengthening cooperation and coordination between the federal and local government, exchanging knowledge, building skills and capacity of UAE nationals and learning about best global and local practices.

The agenda of the Summit covers all aspects of government services, and will include a detailed discussion on the UAE's model in developing government services covering Abu Dhabi and Dubai's experiences in government service provision. The summit's agenda will focus on embracing creativity and innovation as a method in the government sector. Several plenary sessions and workshops will be held to highlight the UAE's experience in government practice.

Among the aspects to be covered include discussions on government services in global cities; social media as a tool for citizen engagement; future scenarios for effective service delivery; innovative partnerships with the private sector; building a service culture in the government sector; tools to improve government services; delivering quality public services; measuring development; and citizen services; A ministerial roundtable will be held as part of the Summit, with ministers from around the world sharing their insights and recommendations on how government services can be made more effective, efficient and citizen-oriented.
