Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (Dewa) has said that the tariff structure will be uniform for both residential and commercial establishments in Dubai.

A senior Dewa official -- who ruled out any immediate increase in the fuel surcharge due to rise in oil prices -- however said any major escalation in the gas and oil prices would be reflected.

Abdulla Alhajri, Executive Vice-President, Customer Services said, “Given our long term contracts with suppliers, we are not expecting any major fluctuation in gas prices. But as and when the production costs increase it will reflect in the surcharge. We want to be as transparent as possible with our customers.”

Dewa, which first introduced the tariff structure in March 2008, this January increased it from 20 fills  per kilowatt to 23 fils for monthly consumption below 2000 KWh and from 33 fils to 38 fils per KWh for consumption of more than 6000 KWh per month.

They blamed the increase on escalating gas and oil prices.

He was speaking during a press conference to announce the forthcoming Wetex Exhibition 2011.

Speaking on the occasion Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD  and CEO of Dewa and Chairman of the Wetex Organising Committee said Dewa could end up signing deals worth almost Dh1billion during the exhibition.

“The exhibition will tackle for three days important issues related to rapid developments and challenges witnessed by the sectors of electricity, water and environment as well as exploring the best solutions and practices to face such challenges.

Moreover, the exhibition will discuss the "Green Technology" that can contribute to mitigating the consequences of global warming," Al Tayer added.
